Exciting Events at Holly Springs!

<em>Breast Cancer Ribbon</em> Magnet Large 4"x8"
Tomorrow is our school's first PINK OUT day! We encourage you to remind your child to dress up in as much pink as possible tomorrow. We are supporting the search for the cure. Our school will also be releasing balloons tomorrow afternoon. Your child can purchase a balloon to release for $1. The proceeds will go to our school's Relay For Life fund. *No child will be penalized for non-participation.

Don't let math or technology trick you! Next Thursday, October 27th is Trick or Treat Night – PTSO Math and Technology Night
This event will be from 6:00 – 7:30 – we will have three 20 minute rotations with the last 15 minutes to trick or treat time to each teachers door.  Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school. (No masks or scary costumes allowed) This will be a fun night to learn some great games to help with math! We will also be showcasing student technology. Our classroom has been working diligently on Native American PowerPoints, and we would love for you to stop by and see them!

The Water Cycle

We have just wrapped up our first Science Unit, Ecosystems. The students loved having the opportunity to participate in fun experiments! We built a classroom ecosystem, and did research on different types of ecosystems. Our next unit is weather. We will begin by discussing the water cycle.

I have included a few websites that have interactive activities on the water cycle.

Scholastic Book Orders

Hawk Eyes are coming home tomorrow! Make sure you check for important information and forms. You will also find a Scholastic Book Order Form. This is optional and no child will be penalized for non-participation. If you choose to participate, please make sure you submit your order before September 30th. All orders must be submitted online. The books will still be delivered to the school, and will be passed out to the students. The log in directions and code are listed on the form. This is an excellent opportunity to not only provide your child with new books to read but to also increase our classroom library. With each online purchase made, we will receive a free book for our classroom! WOW! Thank you for all that you do!

Multiplication Mania!

Please remember to study those multiplication facts each night! I know that everyone is so busy during this time of year. One suggestion is to practice in the car. As you are going to school, practice, the grocery store, etc., you can quiz your child on the basic facts. By studying 10 minutes each day, you will notice drastic improvements. I am including three links below which will enable you to practice facts online. These are just a couple of many. Happy studying!

This website has activities, and an option to print your own flashcards.

http://www.mrmyers.org/Math_Mania/ttmult.html
This is an interesting website that allows you to take timed multiplication tests. The timer is set, and you answer the questions, it grades your answers at the end. Remember, our goal is to be able to answer 100 questions in 5 minutes!

This is my favorite website, Math Magician. This website has many fun games that you can play while practicing your facts!

Welcome Back!

Wow! What a fantastic first day! I am so honored to have your wonderful children in my classroom this year! We had a great first day! The students were eager to come back, and they were anxious to show me everything they know! I know we will have a productive year! Please remember to return the forms you received at our Sneak A Peek asap. I would also like to thank you for the many supplies that we received. I so appreciate your generosity, and the students do as well! We are off to a great start!
